Winter Warmers

We all may have noticed the changes around us lately, from the temperature and clothing selections (although I spot the odd person with their shorts or open toe shoes and I wonder…) to the changes in nature making me realise that winter is approaching – fast.
I, for one, am not the biggest fan of winter, mainly because of:

Static - I mean how can a lady live like that, exposing the neck as a result of tying up the hair in an attempt to avoid the spread.
Earlier setting of the sun – I have noticed that I need Daylight Saving in my life. When it becomes dark, my eyes automatically close soon after.
Winter, with its colder and somewhat shorter days, may have a negative effect on some individuals - be it emotionally, physically or health wise.
As always, I will do my best to provide some winter warmers that might warm your heart, body, or mind.
1. Stay active – I understand that when it is cold or dark outside we do not always want to get up and be active, but think about the option to reduce exercise time or change the type of exercise to something you can do indoors, for example.

2. Continue to engage in social activities – I get that nothing beats curling up on the couch with a blanket and a hot beverage on a cold winter’s day but spending time with friends or family can boost your mood and keep you motivated.
3. Participate in your hobbies – keep doing activities that you enjoy despite the cold. If you love spending time in nature, wear the scarf and put on the beanie, the sun will warm you. If you feel the need to stay inside, find indoor activities like crafts, reading, gaming, building pillow forts etc. and have some fun.
4. Stay hydrated – who wants to drink water when it is so cold? It is important to keep in mind that our body still has the same functions whether it is hot or cold. Drinking water promotes a healthier mind which is necessary for overall health and wellbeing. Try keeping a reusable bottle with you throughout the day.
Over and above all the things that may bring us down during winter, I consciously choose to see the beauty in each season.

If winter is not your month, remember that you have something to look forward to.
Keep warm and make your mental health a priority.
